Eddie and Frank Thomas Traveled the Blues Highway for Three Years, recording its story...

Need a good Journey of Discovery; Want to see The Delta; Like to hear and see what Alan Lomax called 'the land where the blues began'?

Try Ridin' the Road with Eddie and Frank.  Sixty-one, 30 second clips work hand in hand with the Thomas brothers' new, 240 page memoir, 61 Down the Highway.

11. When the Levee Breaks (Walls)

In 1927 there was a storm. The levee holding back the water of the Mississippi River broke at Mounds landing and flooded 20,000 square miles of Delta to a depth of 50 feet. Elizabeth Douglas (Memphis Minnie) was from Walls. She and her husband Joe McCoy wrote a song about the flood. On the outskirts of Walls, Eddie and Frank, surrounded by cows in a pasture, recorded Memphis Minnie and Joe McCoy's When the Levee Breaks.
