BLUES TOUR - Ridin' the Road

THE SCOOP

[+ Show ME More]
Eddie and Frank Thomas Traveled the Blues Highway for Three Years, recording its story...

Need a good Journey of Discovery; Want to see The Delta; Like to hear and see what Alan Lomax called 'the land where the blues began'?

Try Ridin' the Road with Eddie and Frank. Sixty-one, 30 second clips work hand in hand with the Thomas brothers' new, 240 page memoir, 61 Down the Highway.

57. Wolverine Blues (New Orleans)

Only a few years after Buddy Bolden played the first notes of jazz at the Odd Fellows and Masonic Hall, Jelly Roll, Louis Armstrong, Johnny Dodds, Sidney Bechet and everybody who was anybody were down the street blasting away at the Red Onion. This old building at 762 South Rampart Street is no longer a dance hall, but has indeed seen many a dancing shoe. Eddie and Frank consider themselves among the lucky few, and maybe even the last, to add their humble notes to the great ones that were sounded here. They did Jelly Roll's The Wolverine Blues.
