THE SCOOP

[+ Show ME More]
Eddie and Frank Thomas Traveled the Blues Highway for Three Years, recording its story...

Need a good Journey of Discovery; Want to see The Delta; Like to hear and see what Alan Lomax called 'the land where the blues began'?

Try Ridin' the Road with Eddie and Frank. Sixty-one, 30 second clips work hand in hand with the Thomas brothers' new, 240 page memoir, 61 Down the Highway.

21. Country Blues (Stovall Farms outside of Clarksdale, MS)

Muddy Waters (McKinley Morganfield) stayed and worked on Stovall Farms outside of Clarksdale for a quarter century before heading off to Chicago to take the Delta blues to the rest of the world. When Eddie and Frank undertook their Angel on the Backroads recording adventure, Muddy Waters' log cabin home was still standing at Stovall's. They started to record Muddy's "Country Blues" inside the cabin, but a note on the outside wall said that it was filled with powerful mojo and no good luck would come to those who tromped around on the inside. They chose a nearby barn.
