31. High Water Everywhere (Mounds Landing)
On April 21, 1927 at seven thirty in the morning, after days of seemly endless storm, the levee broke at Mounds Landing and flooded 20,000 square miles of Mississippi Delta to a depth of 50 feet. A quarter of a million people were left homeless. Charley Patton wrote a song about it. Eddie and Frank went to Mounds Landing on a morning that was so peaceful that a single bird chip seemed to ring for miles down the river. They recorded their version of Charley's High Water Everywhere.
